Army Specialist Michael C. Wargo from Lehighton, PA

Michael’s story is impactful. A 1994 National Honor Society graduate of Lehighton Area High School, Mike attended Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science to become a doctor. According to his loved ones, Michael chose to become a biology/chemistry teacher instead. He enlisted after 9/11 and became a chemical weapons specialist who served 10 months of duty in Afghanistan. Michael experienced losing many of his friends during his tour and when he returned in 2005, he was not the same man.
No one was aware of his struggles with PTS until he committed suicide at age 36, eight full years after leaving the service. Michael’s parents wish to state: “One is one too many, and it is our responsibility to bring light to this devastating problem”.
