Sergeant Hansen graduated in 2003 from Kingsley High School where he was the captain of the Track, Football, and Wrestling Teams. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 2005 and attended the School of Infantry at Camp Pendleton, California, where he graduated with honors. In 2006, Sgt. Hansen began his career as a Reconnaissance Marine, assigned to 3rd Recon Battalion, Okinawa Japan and came to MARSOC in April 2009, becoming a critical skills operator in 2010.
He was assigned to Hotel Company, 2nd MSOB, Camp Lejeune, in December 2010. Sgt. Hansen’s deployment to Badghis Province in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom was his first deployment. Sgt. Hansen was on a cordon and search mission in search of a high-value target when his patrol was hit with small arms fire and was killed in the firefight. His honors include the Purple Heart, two Combat Action Ribbons, two Good Conduct Medals, certified Corps Parachutist, and a brown belt in the U.S. Marine Corps Martial Arts program.
